يحكى أنه كان هناك رجل يبيع اللبن وكان يبيعه من النوع الجيد الغير مغشوش وكان له من الزبائن الكثير .. في يوم من الأيام قرر صاحبنا زيادة مكسبه فخلط نصف اللبن بالماء .. وكالعادة ذهب للسوق وباع اللبن المغشوش ولم ينتبه زبائنه أن اللبن مغشوش لأنهم يثقون به ويتعاملون معه من زمان … فربح ضعف الربح وكان فرحاً لمكسبه الجديد .. في طريق عودته للبيت أنهكه التعب فقرر ان يرتاح قليلا تحت ظل شجرة أمام النهر.. في هذه الأثناء نزل ( قرد ) من على الشجرة وسرق كيس المال.. فصرخ البائع وصاح يتوسل بالقرد ليرد له كيس المال .. فما كان من القرد إلا أن فتح الكيس وقام برمي قطعه واحدة للبائع وأخرى في النهر .. واستمر بذلك حتى فرغ الكيس من النقود .. عندها قام البائع بجمع النقود التي رماها له القرد.. تفاجأ عند عده للمال أنها كانت تساوي ثمن اللبن غير المغشوش !!! فضحك وأطلق هذه المقولة “مال اللبن للبن.. ومال الماء للماء” ومن يومها قرر عدم خلط اللبن بالماء .. فصار قوله مثلا يتردد عبر الأجيال..
