قدم الاتحاد الأوروبي، اليوم الاثنين، مساهمة إضافية بقيمة 9.27 مليون يورو لمساعدة السلطة الفلسطينية في تغطية تكاليف التحويلات الطبية إلى مستشفيات القدس الشرقية.
هذه المساهمة حاسمة بشكل خاص في خضم التحديات الهائلة التي تواجه قطاع الصحة الفلسطيني بسبب جائحة كورونا.
وتعد مستشفيات القدس الشرقية عنصرًا أساسيًا في النظام الصحي الفلسطيني، حيث تقدم خدمات صحية عالية الجودة لآلاف الفلسطينيين من الضفة الغربية، بما في ذلك القدس الشرقية وغزة.
وسيمكن هذا الدعم هذه المستشفيات من الحفاظ على توفير هذه الخدمات أثناء الاستجابة لتفشي جائحة كورونا.
إلى جانب الدول الأعضاء في الاتحاد الأوروبي، يدعم الاتحاد الأوروبي السلطة الفلسطينية منذ عام 2012 بمساهمات منتظمة لتغطية التحويلات إلى مستشفيات القدس الشرقية والتي وصلت إلى ما يقرب من 140 مليون يورو منذ ذلك الحين.
وقال ممثل الاتحاد الأوروبي سفن كون فون بورغسدورف: “نشهد زيادة مقلقة في عدد حالات الإصابة بفيروس كورونا في فلسطين، نظام الرعاية الصحية مثقل ويواجه تحديات غير مسبوقة.
وأضاف أنه في ظل هذه الظروف، من الضروري أن تستمر مستشفيات القدس الشرقية بتقديم خدمات صحية متخصصة عالية الجودة للفلسطينيين من كل الاراضي الفلسطينية.
وتابع “من خلال نهج فريق أوروبا، تمكنا من تجنيد الموارد من الاتحاد الأوروبي والدول الأعضاء فيه لمساعدة السلطة الفلسطينية في مواجهة تأثير جائحة كورونا. يثبت دعمنا للمستشفيات الفلسطينية في القدس الشرقية مرة أخرى التزامنا القوي تجاه الشعب الفلسطيني والمؤسسات الفلسطينية في المدينة”.
